The 2006-2007 Jesuit High School Mock Trial Team consisted of a veteran Jesuit Blue team, and a young, aggressive Jesuit White team. The team was eager to defend its 2005-2006 Louisiana State Championship. The year started out well with a hybrid (of Jesuit Blue and Jesuit White) team winning the CHS Tournament in New Iberia., and the 2nd Parish Court Competition.
Region I Tournament There were thirteen teams in the Regional competition, but only two rounds before finals. Jesuit White, a very young and scrappy team, won both of its rounds. Jesuit Blue, the defending State Champion, drew a bye the first round, and then defeated (during the second round) the same team that Jesuit White defeated during the first round. After that second round, the tournament director announced the final match, and neither Jesuit team was included. Both teams were understandably disappointed. McGehee's went on to win the Region I Championship, and they represented our region well at the State Tournament.
We had a good team this year. They worked hard and they worked well together. Next year, Jesuit will hopefully return four battle-tested attorneys: Levere Montgomery (junior), Andres Begue (sophmore), Jamie Flanagan (fresh), and Robert Semmes (fresh); and five experienced witnesses: Austin Smith (fresh), Alex Cerrone (fresh), Tim Weber (fresh), Jack Zeringue (fresh), Gregory Ritiner (fresh), & Connor Ryan (fresh).
Graduation:
We will miss our four seniors: Phil Sampognaro, Andrew Baer, Ryan Bautista, and Andrew Worrel. Phil Sampognaro earned the trophy for being the best lawyer at the State Championship Tournament last year, and was even better this year. Andrew Baer won an award at the National Tournament last year as a witness, and did an excellent job this year as an attorney. Ryan Bautista did a good job this year as both a lawyer and a witness, and Andrew Worrel had his best performance of the year as a witness at Regionals.
